Ya.L. Tsiv’yan Novosibirsk Research Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics has had over 70 years of experience in providing diagnostic services and care to patients with diseases of the musculoskeletal system and central and peripheral nervous system. The Institute includes 6 clinical departments with 240 beds, of which 40 in the pediatric department, therapeutic and diagnostic units, 10 operating rooms; and employs about 800 employees. From 2010, Novosibirsk NIITO also admits patients with acute spinal trauma on a 24-hour basis.
The Institute provides a full spectrum of advanced medical services and utilizes state-of-the-art medical techniques based on advanced scientific developments in traumatology, orthopedics, and neurosurgery at all stages from discovering a pathology, its diagnostics, and surgical treatment to postoperative follow-up and rehabilitation treatment.
Spinal injuries and disorders have always been the top priority of the Institute’s scientific and clinical research. Permanent contacts between joint replacement surgeons and vertebrology surgeons improve the outcomes for patients with concurrent spinal and joint pathologies.
The Institute is the leading provider of hi-tech medical care to people from the Novosibirsk and other regions. The annual number of operations performed during 2016 and 2017 exceeded 10 000.
In June 2015, the Institute was the first in Russia to use the Biser nanoceramic hip implants manufactured by NEVZ-Ceramics JSC. These implants were the product of four years of joint efforts of specialists from our Institute, Novosibirsk Medical Technopark, NEVZ-Ceramics JSC, Novosibirsk State Technical University, and Institute of Solid State Chemistry and Mechanochemistry of SB RAS. As of today, almost 2000 patients from various regions of the Russian Federation have received the Biser implants.
We are the only Russian institution awarded a status of reference clinic by AOSpine. Our Institute is a major accredited center for training highly qualified specialists in fellowship and residency, graduating about 20 specialists in Traumatology and Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, and ‘Anesthesiology and Resuscitation annually. Here, traumatologists orthopedists and neurosurgeons from Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, China, Jordan, France, and other countries enhance their professional skills.

The Institute is the founder of the Spinal Surgery journal (impact factor of 0.6) included in the Scopus database. The journal is recommended by the State Commission for Academic Degrees and Titles for for publishing the conceptual issues of dissertation researches.
The clinical departments of the Institute provide a full spectrum of advanced medical services and utilize state-of-the-art medical techniques based on advanced scientific developments in traumatology, orthopedics, and neurosurgery at all stages from detecting a pathology, its diagnostics, and surgical treatment to postoperative surveillance and rehabilitation treatment. At present, almost all units use preoperative 3D imaging and 3D-printed custom implants.
